THE DRIVER ERA is dropping their latest single, “I’d Rather Die,” today, and it’s the perfect teaser for their upcoming album, Obsession, coming April 11th! Ross and Rocky Lynch are bringing that signature alt-pop magic with this catchy, bold track that you’re definitely going to have on repeat.
Starting with a smooth, jazzy intro, “I’d Rather Die” quickly builds into an infectious melody, punctuated by the cheeky “I’ll do it tomorrow!” With its minimalist vibe, the track lets Ross and Rocky’s powerhouse vocals shine, backed by a punchy drumbeat and a playful piano riff. The lyrics dive into that familiar push-and-pull between good intentions and late-night temptations, like when they sing, “I try my best to be good / But I live for the night.”
Ross explains the vibe, saying, “It’s the same kind of concept where we’re tackling obsession and habits and basically just saying, ‘I know these things are killing me but like I’m not quite ready to give them up so I’ll do it tomorrow.’” Rocky adds, “There’s a bit of that loop, that same old story we’re referencing, where everyone has their own loop that they probably can climb out of by doing it today instead of tomorrow.”
Obsession is available to pre-save now.
