Sabrina Claudio Brings Velvet-Soft Intimacy and Romantic Atmosphere to Chicago on Fall In Love With Her - The Tour: Live Review

A stage set with a rich red curtain and lanterns radiating with warm light. A room filled with dedicated fans dressed in lace, florals, floor-length gowns, and leather to mirror the aesthetic of the artist they've come to see. An Olivia Dean-packed preshow playlist, rows of pianos and guitars rimming warm-toned bohemian rugs, but none of it compared to the allure that settled over Chicago's House of Blues with the arrival of Sabrina Claudio as she took to the stage for a stop on her Fall In Love With Her - The Tour.

The stunning instrumental intro of "One Word" blossomed into an awe-inducing display of Claudio's ethereal, multi-octave vocal range. The air of reverence for Sabrina shifted from a place of wonderment to a place of authenticity as she turned to the crowd with tears glistening in her eyes. "Guys, I'm low key pissed. I'm just getting over the flu and I can't give you the show I want to give you," she says. The resounding response from the crowd was nothing but "I love you!"s and "You look so beautiful!," to which Claudio put her hands on her heart in true gratitude.

As she floated through fan-favorites like "Truth Is," "Before It's Too Late," and "IOU," Claudio kept her vocals resounding with emotion, carefully crafting her setlist with gems from across her discography that support the sonic and thematic concepts behind her latest album, Fall In Love With Her. But she's very adamant about making her shows a shared experience between her, her band, and her fans, incorporating full band fan requests into her setlist. A unanimous embrace of "Frozen" made the first request of the evening an easy choice, but a divided crowd had Sabrina directing the crowd to hold up a one or two on their fingers to vote for their favorite, before ultimately landing on another from her full-length debut About Time, "Stand Still."

Settling in the trio of "Need U To Need Me," "Protect Her," and "Problem With You," Claudio gave a heartfelt, tear-filled goodbye and thank you to the crowd who had her back through a show she dreamed would be more dazzling than she felt it was. But Sabrina, your artistry and authenticity gave Chicago a fleeting, ethereal haven of healing where music became something a little closer to magic.
