Emerging from the vibrant surf-rock culture of San Diego, Sun Room, made up of Luke Asgian, Max Pinamonti, and Ashton Minnich, started out packing sweaty house shows that often ended with the cops showing up. Fast forward a few whirlwind years, and they’ve taken their sun-drenched sound to sold-out stages around the world, touring alongside acts like Louis Tomlinson and Inhaler. Now, the band returns with their boldest chapter yet: RITUAL OF CHAOS.
The EP opens with guns blazing on "JACKKNIFE," which sounds as if you mashed together the beach boys and your favorite rock band. Recorded live in the studio, the song captures a raw, unfiltered energy that feels undeniably real. Lyrically, it dives into the chaos of a reckless young love that’s impossible to shake: “She knows when she sees me / That stare cuts me deeply / Jackknife I’m so easy.” The story continues to unravel with “SHE’LL MOVE TO LONDON,” where the romance slips further out of reach. He’s caught chasing a restless woman with a heart full of wanderlust—always moving, never settling.
The band pulls back the noise on “OSLO, PARIS, LA,” delivering a stripped-down acoustic moment that hits straight to the heart. It's a tender reflection on longing for a girl who’s always somewhere else, geographically and emotionally. Despite the time zones and distance, he can’t seem to let her go. “When you’re sleeping baby, I’m just up / Now you’re in Paris girl and I’m outta luck / The city starts its morning / The paper appears / But I’m in LA and you’re not here.” Cranking the energy back up, “ON FIRE” and “DON’T CAUSE A RIOT” let the guitars and drums take the wheel, propelling listeners straight into the chaos of late nights and reckless youth. It’s a loud, fast-paced ride through the thrill of going out, getting lost in the moment, and being unapologetically young and wild with someone by your side.
Closing out the wild ride is “THE NIGHT’S NOT OVER,” where the love story picks back up: “The night’s not over / Not if you know her / And the music is right on cue.” His girl is back, the party rolls on, and the energy refuses to fade. But beyond the storyline, the track feels like a metaphor for Sun Room themselves, just hitting their stride, with plenty more to come.
Sun Room masterfully channels the raw emotions of youth into every note and lyric. Their music paints a vivid picture of what it feels like to fall headfirst into love, lose yourself in the moment, and make all the wrong decisions for all the right reasons. With a sound that blends nostalgic surf-rock with modern edge, they bring to life the chaos and beauty of being young, wild, and unsure of what comes next.
