Everyone say f*cking yee, Kacey Musgraves has made her return. After teasing her newest single, "Dry Spell," out March 11, the country star announced that her new studio album, Middle of Nowhere, will be released May 1 via Lost Highway Records.
Between the album artwork that depicts Musgraves in a cowboy hat followed by a steer, collaborations with some of the biggest names in country music (i.e., Willie Nelson and Miranda Lambert), and the return to the label that signed her at the start of her career, it seems that Musgraves has finally made the return to her witty, folksy roots of her first two projects, Same Trailer, Different Park and Pageant Material. Musgraves has dabbled in airy country-pop, landed a Grammy for Album of the Year, and sold out arenas in the last few eras of her career, and with her newest single, "Dry Spell," Musgraves makes it clear that even though she's grown the last few years, home will always be in in nostalgic Texas country music.
In a state of reflection and clarity, Middle of Nowhere finds Musgraves leaning intentionally into open space and traditional Western elements featuring influences of Texas dancehall country, bluegrass, and pop.
